35 Years Nabel Records
Nabel was founded in 1980 by Rainer Wiedensohler in Aachen, Germany. Since its beginnings, Nabel’s mission has always been to promote a selected group of European artists from the world of Jazz, World and Improvised music. Starting out as a part-time business, Nabel soon expanded and grew continuously, in both personnel and scope. Nabel has become a team that takes care of music production and mastering within its own mastering-studio (MFIT- Apple certified), graphic design, promotion, etc. We regularly publish productions of promising and vivid young bands that have a fresh musical approach. Though it has not always proven to be easy to establish them on the international market, we can look back on quite some success: Nabel discovered Artists like John Thomas, Monika Linges, Gebhard Ullmann, Celine Rudolph and Maria Joao, whose reputation outside of Portugal we helped to promote.

For many years, our Latin Jazz branch with artists like John Thomas and Monika Linges has been successful in the international Dance Jazz and Club Scene. As well as quality music, Nabel has always placed a great deal of importance in achieving audiophile sound quality and providing appealing artwork for the albums issued, some of which are available as LPs, or on 180g vinyl.

Remastered 2015

Devil Dance was American guitarist John Thomas' first collaboration with young German musicians. Especially in England and Japan, this Latin-Jazz-production has been very well received with some tracks still being requested for samplers.
John Thomas, who has been teaching at Berklee for many years, is still musically active and has just this year released a new record. We have now elaborately remastered his old recordings and released them on 1st November, both as a Digipak copy and as a high-resolution Download

Nabel 4726-2 Esja 4, Petrichor

Esja 4 are: Gero Schipmann guitar |
Gero Schipmann, guitarist from Cologne, was inspired by a prolonged stay in Iceland to write the music for this album. However, Petrichor is not simply a sampler which sets out to paint a musical portrait of Europe’s remote north: Rather than a collage of reconstructed nordic sirens, folk airs and ethereal „Lord of the Rings“ film music, we hear open-minded Jazz by a guitar-led quartet, which exhibits neither technical prowess for its own sake nor tediously melancholic nebulosity.Â
Following his graduation at the Cologne College of Music, Gero is now based in London, where he is completing a master’s degree at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Nabel 4607-3 Monika Linges, Floating

Remastered 2015  Monika Linges vocal, composing, arrangements  |
Floating (recorded in 1982) is the very intimate debut of Monika Linges, presenting Latin-inspired songs and ballads. With Dennis Luxion, former pianist of trumpet player Chet Baker, Linges found an ideal musical partner, with Luxion supporting her as a composer, Fender Rhodes player and as a singer. After Linges’ big success in Germany in the 1980s, her songs were discovered by DJ's in the London Club Scene in the early 90s. This led to a comeback with international CD sales and several appearances on compilations within the UK, Asia and on bootlegs. She performed on other artists’ productions including Nobukazu Takemura and Hipsters in the zone. Her CDs were also published in Japan as well, where her music has been very well-received.
Monika Linges is Nabel’s top selling artist and the original version of this album has been the number one in online streaming amongst all of Nabel’s publications.
